About Me
Me
or fae too :) i am the worst at writing and especially the worst at writing about myself but hi. i run this website mainly but i also draw + other creative ventures.
i think im pretty observant but i have the shortest attention span of all time and hate reading. still i can easily focus and spend a lot of my time on things i enjoy. i overwork myself sometimes but only for things im interested in, can keep my attention, or i know is important. when its everything else im kind of lazy and it sucks i need to be better kek
- i jump between interests and hobbies often; its kind of rare for me to hold onto one thing for a long period of time before dropping it completely.
- i think what i struggle with most in life is balance; balancing whats good for me and what i want.
- i love nature and flowers and looking at it and taking pictures of it.
- im sensitive to derealization sometimes
Webmistressing
more history + old versions of site
my "webmistress origin story" isnt really a special one but here it is:
i joined neocities sometime early 2023 out of curiosity after someone i was following on camera app (back when i had camera app) showed off their neocities. i was so interested and allured by the idea of having a personal website. like most other people who dont run their own site i think, i thought only boring corporations could have a website in the fucking minimalist trendy style, so i was amazed to find this community of indie website devs making cute, personal, pretty sites!!!
shortly after i enthusiastically signed up for a neocities account, i found sites like cinni.net and middlepot.com from the browse tab which blew me away with their personality, visual appeal, and intricacy. so much care and love was put into them and they just gave off this energy of online intimacy(?) i never experienced before on modern day apps/social media. everying mainstream is so convoluted and generalized and literally impossible to fully enjoy anymore. having a personal website like this--seperate from the drama-ridden cesspools of mainstream social media/communities--is so nice, refreshing, and healing. i can truly enjoy being online and not feel like im just following a trend.
not to say that mainstream social media is all bad; you know why its good...if it wasnt good in at least some aspects no one would use it. its just not for me. forgotten experiences like just emailing and making a personal website have been rediscovered by me through ditching the fast-paced generalized nature of social media and living a life off the modern internet
running a site is great but is still mentally draining in a lot of other aspects. as a perfectionist workaholic i feel the need to make everything perfect...this is not a good trait to have. running a website has made me trade one online addiction for another. the time i used to spend on my phone has been reallocated to my computer. oops lol.
my approach to running a website is just to have fun and make something true to myself. because the styles i like are constantly changing as my inspiration changes and because i have a range of site design styles/inspiration i like/draw from, my pages explore a variety of styles and i attempt to make them unique so every new page discovered is a rewarding one!
some of my main design styles i draw from are skeumorphic design with depth/frutiger aero, east asian brand magazine/package/product design (i find it comforting since thats whats surrounded me most of my life!), old operating systems, old "girly" sites, and other neocities sites of course!!! some sites that i love and have in somewhat shaped my design tastes (besides the aforementioned) are yuviko, philia995 and doqmeat
ive also recently attempted to mix my ui approach with integrating accessibility too. i find user accessibility in websites important and unfortunately not a part of one of my driving inspirations; old geocities sites. recently, ive attempted to make all my layouts screensize responsive, added light/dark mode toggles, alt text, improve readibility and learn to prioritize form over function more? i dont know if my attempt is futile but im still learning and i hope my efforts arent in vein dhiewkdhlw
